WoW
I had such a lovely time playing WoW over the last year. It sparked my imagination as nothing else has for a long time, and was more engrossing than most of the recent fiction I've tried. But alas, I've come to the end of the parts I like. I have three characters at level 70, one in his sixties, and a bunch between twenty and fifty, and I've done all the quests too many times now.

At first it was cool to do them again in different characters, to see how differently they had to be handled. Most recently, it was very interesting to do them with my druid, who has stealth and (since level 68) flight form (which is way different than a flying mount). But now he's boring, too, because the basic flight form is slooooooow (slower than an epic ground mount), and the only way he can get his epic flight form is by playing in groups with others.

Now, I think it's a really good plan that they force kids to play in groups. That's cool. And in fact, most people really seem to prefer that, and rush through the game to get to the end so they can do the same thing over and over again in a group. But me, I play to get away from social obligations and have some time to myself. I have no desire whatsoever to group with people who are deeply serious about the game and about "playing one's class well" and competing and getting gear and all the stuff that most bores me. I just want to play.

Or I did. But since I can't get fast flight form for my druid, and I'm tired of playing my hunter and my warlock, and I'll probably never get my rogue or my mage to the level cap because I've already done all those quests too many times, I seem to be pretty much done. I'm just not much interested in playing anymore. In fact we've been talking about whether we'll even bother with the Lich King expansion when it comes out; we might give up our subscriptions instead, because my honey isn't much interested in playing anymore, either.

But it sure was fun while it lasted.
